Who We Are

History:

100 Acre Wood Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc. was created to formally organize a volunteer effort to meet the needs of wildlife affected by rapid growth and construction in Hernando County. With the arrival of new residents came new homes, more highways and widened roads cutting through natural habitats. The displacement of wildlife became sadly apparent to Linda Christian who was seeing increased numbers of injuries and loss of habitats. Christian, licensed by Federal and State government agencies, had permission to take in sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Single handedly she became their caregiver and surrogate mother nursing them back to health and softly releasing them to natural habitats. It was not long before she needed appropriate places to care for the growing numbers of wildlife. Unlike a hospital where everyone gets a bed, the 100 Acre Wood needed to create places that were familiar and safe to the mammals, reptiles and birds in its care.

As a non-profit corporation the 100 Acre Wood Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc., is a charitable organization and can receive charitable donations. Financial gifts are extremely important to ensuring the mission “dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of all native Florida wildlife” is a success.
